The painting, “Stitched and Caged” is from a body ofwork that explores the pairing of acrylic paint and vintage dress patterns oncanvas. I’ve always been fascinated by the beautiful and delicate qualities ofdress patterns, especially the way they effortlessly read as maps. I wascurious as to how they would hold up when layered with acrylic paint, and inthe process, found they were a perfect merge. As the paintings evolved, twomajor themes kept reappearing: cages, and geographical imagery/references. Inthe end, the series read as nostalgic snapshots and visual maps of my past.
