Catherine Maryse Anderson is a poet, essayist, anti-racist ally, educator, director and curator of Ovations Offstage in Portland, Maine. Catherine’s “awakening” to her own internalized racism and white privilege with the adoption of her first brown-skinned son, and the birth of her second informs much of her writing and actions. Catherine turns to poetry as a way of mediating her own experience of both. Recently married for the first time she also blathers occasionally on the minefield of love found later. Her first manuscript “Black Enough,” which she began at her stay at the Martha’s Vineyard Writers Residency in April 2014, is poised for publication. Her newest collection: “Inside the Water Tower” is nearing completion.
